Let's say I have a WordPress blog post, call it post1. And let's say I have two categories, category1 and category2.

Say post1 is in both categories.

Further, URLs, depending on how the post is reached look something like this:

site/category1/post1

site/category2/post1

Is search juice being diluted because the same “content” is accessed via multiple URLs?

Well yechnically yes, that's likely happening, but I still do categorize things in multiple categories if it's appropriate. The goal is for your users to find it, and if it makes sense, then go ahead.

However, do try to miniimize your own linking to it or referring to it by using just just one URL, and if you're really anal, you could just 301 the extra urls all to just one primary category. I like that rather than skipping an appropriate category.

Thanks Scott.

Especially with the don't sweat it too much part Wink  But the 301 reminder is good to know.

It's the “well designed” part that a wonder about when it comes to SEO.

Let's say I have a website/blog called Great Stuff. For that site I right a post called More Great Stuff. I put this post in the Great Stuff Beginners and in the Great Stuff Articles categories.

Are there now three URLs for that single post?

http://www.greatstuff.com/moregreatstuff

http://www.greatstuff.com/great-stuff-beginners/more-great-stuff

http://www.greatstuff.com/great-stuff-articles/more-great-stuff

And is the “link juice” now being diluted by there being three URLs for the same content.

If I understand Scott, the answer is there is some dilution and that 301's should be used to channel said “link Juice” to only one of the URLs.
