Two questions that I would love to hear your thoughts on. For a small business starting on a small marketing budget, do you think allocating $1,000 will produce any results? Is that too small?

That is a little small. But not necessarily too small.
So much depends on what your online endeavour is, what your immediate goals are, and what kind of Search Engine Marketing you are talking about.

After you save a post, the system may tell you that you’ve entered no data. Just hit save again and it mysteriously works.
It’s a known bug, not a huge deal, we’ve just got to wait for the next version, so please don’t bitch about it.
